Limnogeology Laboratory
Research Fleet
Motorboat ArETHuse
The flagship of the Limnogeology Laboratory was christened
in spring 2003 in the Limmat at the outflow of Lake Zürich.
The 7.5 m long Tarfish700 boat was manufactured in Finland by the
TARGA-BotnaMarine
shipyard.
Propelled by a double helix 150HP Volvo inboard diesel engine, equipped witha fully walk-around multi-door
cabin and an electric winch with coring frame, it is the ideal vessel for short core and seismic survey operations.
Inflatable Boats
A series of inflatable boats serve as mobile survey vessels when working in medium-sized to
small lakes. The largest of them,
a Zodiac Marc III, offers a fully mobile system for short coring and
high-resolution seismic surveying campaigns. Together with the inflatable catamaran holding the pinger
seismic source, this setup developped by ourselves represents an efficient
light-weight 3.5 kHz seismic survey system allowing for full digital data
recording incl. real time data printing.

Coring Platform HELVETIA
The Austrian-built Uwitec-Niederreiter coring
platform HELVETIA was christened in the Seeli in Seelisberg, the heart of the
Swiss Confederation in 2001. The 3
x 4 m large platform floats on four inflatable tubes, has a large moonpool, a
tripod with three winches and can be propelled by an outboard engine. The
entire system, including the percussion piston coring system, fits on a
trailor. It is co-owned by the EAWAG
Lakesediment Research Group.
XL-Coring Platform ARARAT
A new Kullenberg XL-Coring Platform will be christened on November 9th 2004. It
consist of 4 inflatable tubes (10 m long) that are covered with an elevated 5 x
8 m coring platform holding crew, equipment and the 8 m high coring tower. Check the announcement, a
photo with Kebab and a movie of
the christening.
