Pinger
The 3.5 kHz pinger system is a highly mobile system offering
complete digital data storage options. It is mounted on an inflatable catamaran that is usually pushed in front of the boat.
Maximum penetration amounts to ~80 m, with a vertical resolution of ~10 cm.
Specifications:
GeoAcoustics 3.5 kHz 4-element pinger mounted on AIRE cataraft
GeoPulse Transmitter (Model 5430A)
Octopus Marine 360 Shallow Seismic Processor
SEG-Y data storage on Exabyte tape drive
Fugawi navigation software on PC laptop
EPC 1086 graphics recorder
Honda 1 kW generator

Airgun
The Bolt airgun offers a high-resolution seismic system operating between the frequencies of 100-500 Hz.
It is co-owned by the Institut Forel (Univ. of Geneva) and can be used in single channel (ETH streamer) or
multichannel mode (Geneva streamer). The seismic signal can penetrate up to 300 m into the sediments with
vertical resolution of ~1 m.
Specifications:
Bolt 1in3 airgun operated at ~70 Mpa
Coltri compressor feeding air bottle
20-element single channel GeoPulse Hydrophone (Model 5110A)
GeoPulse Receiver (Model 5210A)
Octopus Marine 360 Shallow Seismic Processor
SEG-Y data storage on Exabyte tape drive
Fugawi navigation software on PC laptop
EPC 1086 graphics recorder

Side scan sonar system
A digital dual frequency (100/325 kHz) side scan sonar system
allows acoustic imaging of the lake floor. It is operated with an automatic winch and a 300 m-long steel cable.
Processing and
mosaicing software produces lake floor maps showing morphological and compositional
variations.
Example of side scan image of a mass flow in Lake Zurich ('Oberrieder Slide')
